Jeep wrangler limp mode reset
I have replaced solenoid valve body ,installed new transmission cooler and replaced the PCM and my jeep still slams into 2cnd gear limp mode. Over $2000 and it still does the same thing. I can reset it by simly turn ignition off/on. Then it shifts fine for 50-100 mikes before it does it again.This step is important as it allows the system to reset completely. Leave the terminal unplugged for approximately 5-10 minutes to ensure that all residual power is drained from the system. I have a 2001 TJ 4.0 and it is consistently throwing a P0305 (#5 piston misfire) code and any time the RPM reaches 2800, it cuts out and surges between 2600 and 2800 rpm (exactly like a Rev limiter, assume a limp mode).The first trip to the shop this time identified the wrong oil filter as the problem, mine did not have a check valve built in. The filter (and oil) was changed and the first climb up a highway grade, the code reset and the engine went into limp mode. Next trip to the shop had the oil changed and a new filter (again).The Jeep Patriot Limp Mode will limit vehicle speed and acceleration to protect the transmission. If activated, it may be reset by turning the ignition off and firing the engine again. You may also try disconnecting the negative battery cable. After 15-20 minutes, reconnect the battery cable to restart the engine and see if Limp Mode has been cleared.
